Liebe Cheersport-Familie,
im Vorfeld der olympischen Spiele fand auch dieses Jahr die Mitgliederversammlung des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees (IOC) statt. Auf der Agenda stand diesmal auch die Abstimmung über die Aufnahme unserer Weltverbandes, der International Cheer Union (ICU), als vollwertiges IOC-Mitglied. Und es ist geschafft: Unser Sport ist nun auch auf Weltebene als eigenständige Sportart anerkannt, die von der ICU vertreten wird!
Die ICU wurde 2004 gegründet. Bis zur vollständigen IOC Aufnahme war es ein sehr langer und steiniger Weg – einige Details dazu findet Ihr > hier. Der CCVD dankt den ICU-Verantwortlichen – allen voran Jeff Webb (ICU Präsident) und Karl Olson (ICU Generalsekretär) für den jahrelangen Kampf und das große Engagement in Bezug auf diesen so wichtigen Meilenstein für unseren Sport.

Die IOC Aufnahme ist nicht gleichbedeutend mit der Anerkennung des Cheerleadings als olympische Disziplin, d.h. Cheerleading ist (noch) keine olympische Sportart. Aber unser Weltverband wird sich sicher nach der IOC Aufnahme neue Ziele setzen …
